The expression “crossing the Rubicon” means
that one has deliberately crossed a point of no return,
that there is no turning back. The saying refers to Julius
Caesar’s crossing of the Rubicon River. Once Caesar
crossed this boundary, he set in motion events that led
to his rule over the ancient Roman world.
